Today, we left sharp at 0800. Charles driving, Sapphire riding shotgun....a bumpy ride out of the lodge area into the actual park. We drove for maybe half an hour and voila, Charles screcches on the brakes and shouts "wild dogs!!!!!!" I was unedumacated at this point and thought I was looking at my Hyena. No.. Wild dogs, aka Painted dogs. We were sat a bit back from them.. I could see their big bat ears sticking out of the grass. Charles finally creeped forward and stopped. we were RIGHT in front of them and they were being lazy dogs... and then they all stood up and decided it was recess.. and they PLAYED!
Oh I was in such a state of happiness.......... and I had not even realised yet how rare these puppies were! They are rarer then the Leopard and the Cheetah. I also was not advised by Mum that she wanted to see these gorgeous Wild Dogs. The dogs were her reason to go to the Selous!!!!
The rest of the day were Giraffe (Twiga), Impala (swala), and elephant (Tembo).
We got back to the lodge at around 4 and got hold of Maggie at Albatros headquarters... Mum would be flying in to the Selous airstrip at 0930 on Weds the 2nd. I could just imagine Mum completly knackered after all her plane trips and hell in getting her butt rescheduled on flights.
Dinner that night was cocktails before and a nice beef dish with soup. Mmmmm always love how they serve us delicous medaterranian food. Not totally Euro food.. but Mediterranean fare.... which I ADORE.
